Chicago & North Western Peninsula Division

1940-1996 Volume 1

By James E Lewnard.

Color laminated hardcover, 8.5x11", 160 coated pages, 300+ color and b/w photos. 2018.

"Chicago & North Western's Peninsula Division was built to haul iron ore.

"For over one hundred and twenty years the North Western hauled iron ore from the Marquette and Menominee Iron Ranges to the docks at Escanaba, Michigan for transloading into ore boats. The railroad quickly expanded its service to haul every conceivable commodity as agriculture and industry developed in the Upper Peninsula and the northeast corner of Wisconsin.

"Chicago & North Western Peninsula Division combines a carefully researched history of the railroad's facilities, equipment, and operations with over 300 black and white and color photographs of trains, stations, and servicing facilities. Detailed photo captions explain the operation of the railroad from Green Bay through Escanaba to Ishpeming, and from Powers through Iron Mountain to Watersmeet, with a special focus on the Escanaba ore docks, industries and mines served in on-line communities, and the operation of passenger trains."
